This week I decided to do a little bit of the background on how shipping day looks and how we ship our family farms beef directly to consumers across United States!

To give you a little background we ship once a week on Mondays - to ensure that the product doesn't sit over the weekend and get stuck at UPS. It can potentially thaw, so we try to avoid the weekends at all costs. We use some:

  • Dry Ice
  • Insulated Coolers
  • And more to help keep the beef in great condition until it reaches you!

Sometimes cows need help giving birth, which is where farmers and/or ranchers come in handy! This cow was having trouble because the calf was in the breeched position. When dad realized she needed help giving birth, he called me and we brought the cow in from the pasture to the barn. There, we safely put her in a head chute and helped pull the calf.  This video was taken a few minutes after that moment.

Esch, a senior animal science major, realized there was a disconnect between many producers and their consumers, and she decided to start her own farm-to-table beef supplier: Oak Barn Beef.
