Instagram Style: Entrepreneurship Journey
Well hello there! 👋I post a lot on Instagram, but also wanted to share more with our blog followers! This is a blog about our entrepreneurship journey and the posts I've made talking about in on social media.
{I figured I'd introduce myself again to our new followers...⠀
⠀
Hi, my name is Hannah. I'm the owner of Oak Barn Beef. But I'm also a full-time college student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I decided to start Oak Barn Beef for two main reasons:⠀
- I am so passionate about educating about agriculture. I love to share our farm stories to show what real farming is like!⠀
- I love sharing our premium beef with people across the USA! We take real pride in raising our animals with the upmost care to create a premium, wholesome product for the families trusting us as their ranchers. What an honor it is.⠀
⠀
I do my best to share my crazy life- whether that is working cattle with our family or being a college student. A huge THANK YOU to all of you who have been following along this far. And to the newbies, thanks for joining us 😝}
{When people ask me how it's possible that I am a full-time college student and business owner, I tell them three things:⠀
1. There is no balance in my life. Every day depends on which commitment needs more of my time on that specific day. (Is this how life goes, too?) I might have an Anatomy Test that I need to study for all day or a Farm Stand to get ready for. I just have to avoid planning the two for the same day 😜⠀
⠀
2. I hope if I work my tail off right now, it will pay off in a few years so I can raise my future kids around this business. Both my parents are entrepreneurs and I loved being able to learn from watching them while I was growing up.
3. Now that I've found what I am so passionate about, I will do anything to continue doing it- even after the hard days. I love everything about this life from learning how to take the best care for our animals to talking to happy customers telling us their family enjoyed their dinner because of Oak Barn Beef. It fuels my fire!⠀
⠀
It's not always easy but I wouldn't trade this life for anything.}
{5 things I want people who are thinking about starting a business to know:⠀
1. Start it. Even though your ideas aren't perfected or your strategy isn't set in stone. There is no better way to learn from doing and you have to start somewhere.⠀
2. People love to help you build a business and are {usually} willing to help you grow it.⠀
3. You can learn a lot from others. Take every single opportunity you have to learn from others who have already learned the hard lessons!⠀
4. There are a lot of free resources out there to learn from. You don't always need a degree in the area you are in- you need youtube 🤣⠀
5. There are so many generous people in this world that will be there with supporting words and gentle reminders that you can do this!⠀
⠀
What advice would you give to someone starting a business? Whether you are a business owner or someone who loves to support small business, comment below! }
{The @Engler_UNLEntrepreneurship Program has changed my life. I never went into college thinking I was going to own my own business, but that changed when I stepped foot into the Engler Culture. They teach hands-on entrepreneurship in a way that empowers students to find their purpose and build on that purpose. This is the Director of the Program, Dr. Tom Field- one of the many people who has made Oak Barn Beef a reality.
The relationships I have built with the staff, other students, and mentors is something I am forever grateful for. The lessons and critical thinking I have gained are things I will never forget. The support I have gotten to start a business in college is a life changer. If you or a student you know wants to own their own business... Point them to this program- they won't regret it!}
