April's Friday On The Farm | Spring On The Farm

Lots Happening On The Farm This Time of Year

While we normally focus on one topic in the monthly addition of Friday On The Farm, a lot is going on this time of year.
Calving Season is still going strong! We just have 6 cows that have yet to calve, and we are eagerly awaiting their babies to make their arrival (and I'm sure the mamas are, too!).

Planting Season: a few fields have been planted, but the majority of farmers have been waiting to plant their crops for the year. Soon, tractors everywhere will be in the field planting soybeans, corn, and alfalfa. During this season, farmers spend a lot of their time getting their equipment tuned up and ready to go, in hopes it'll minimize breakdowns when it's time to plant. They wait until the ground is the right temperature and the forecast looks like it's done freezing.

Breeding Season Preparation: While we are still calving, many ranchers are making plans for the upcoming breeding season. Ranchers thoughtfully plan out which bulls will best go with their cows so they have the best genetics. With Oak Barn Beef, we specifically want cattle that are going to grow the best beef, so we plan accordingly!

On a personal note:
The girls and I (Hannah) are loving the spring weather! I don't believe our older daughter (17 months) remembers last spring and summer, and she is loving being able to be outdoors more often now. She grabs her coat and says, 'Outside, Outside' constantly. Her mom is in the same boat, too!
PS - We're still celebrating our 6-Year Anniversary! Don't miss out on the special beef box and the other sale items listed on our website. Click here to view!
